INDIAN STREET FOOD

Good afternoon friends,

Do you get occasional craving for fast food? I do, but I don’t regularly eat them for health reasons. I prefer binge eating, feasting on these amazing delicacies once in six months or so. These are the Indian Street Food that would make you salivate and you can’t resist the temptation of having them at least once in a while.

Pav Bhaji

Pav Bhaji

Pav bhaji is a Maharashtrian dish consisting of a soft bread roll (pav)served with a thick mixed vegetable gravy, topped with pieces of butter, and garnished with coriander leaves, chopped onion, and a piece of lemon that’s squeezed on the gravy to add more flavor.

Bread Pakora

Bread Pakora

Bread pakora is considered an Indian and Pakistani dish. Pakora means fritters. Triangular pieces of bread are dipped in the batter of spicy gram flour and fried. It’s served hot with tomato sauce or coriander chutney.

Bhelpuri

Bhelpuri is a savory snack made out of crushed puris, puffed rice, sev, tamarind sauce, garnishing of coriander leaves and chopped onions. It’s quite delicious and has a unique taste.

Kachori

This is one of my favorite Indian snack. Kachori a round flattened ball made of fine flour filled with a stuffing of baked mixture of yellow moong dal or urad dal (crushed and washed horse beans), besan (crushed and washed gram flour), black pepper, red chili powder, salt and other spices. It originated in the Hindi speaking region of India.

A samosa is a kind of triangular or conical shaped fried savory with the filling consisting of mashed and spiced potatoes with chickpeas and garam masala, a type of seasoning used to prepare vegetable gravy and curry. It’s eaten with green chillies and tomato sauce. It originated in Persia ( now Iran) and became very popular in India, South Asia, Middle East, East Africa, Central Asia, and others.

Masala Puri.

Squashed puris are absorbed in hot masala sauce comprised of puffed rice, green peas, stew powder, garam masala, chaat masala, coriander powder, and so forth. Garnishing of little slices of onion and tomato, carrot shavings (discretionary), coriander leaves and sev are then added, before the dish is served.

Dahi Puri.

Dahi Puri consists of the small puris with the filling of mashed potato, chickpeas, tamarind sauce and yogurt with coriander leaves and sev, a type of homemade snack with sliced pieces of raw onion for garnishing.

Pani puri is a pan fried fresh flatbread, loaded up with a combination of enhanced water (known as imli pani), tamarind chutney, chilli powder, chaat masala, potato squash, onion, or chickpeas.

  3. Thank you so much, dear Kym. They used to be exclusive street food but now available both from vendors on the street as well as a good eatery, almost every restaurant and cafe in India. The best place to enjoy these dishes is, Mumbai. Happy Sunday too dear friend. 😊🥰🥰🌹🌹🌹🌹
